Wearing Fur in Italy

Last time I was in Italy, women were wearing Fur Coats and Jackets...is this still the normal attire for winter?

I don't know about normal. But if you want to stay warm that is what you wear. And some people still wear fur.

According to my young Italian teacher, who wore her fur to class in December, fur is still in and worn.

Fur is still in. The people who tend to be really rocking the fur are the elderly ladies, otherwise everyone is wearing black down coats of various cuts and styles, shorter is in as opposed to the long knee length "tube" parkas of several winters ago.

Fur is definitely in. My daughter is studying in Florence right now and sent me a message that everyone is wearing their short fur jackets and asked if I could send hers (yard sale item) so she would look fashionable.

LOL - my 9 year old said this to me the other day:

"Daddy, why does it seem most of the ladies with fur coats are old?" -

My answer? Because they are "old" school...

There is plenty of fur worn in Florence -

Nice to know that they are all staying warm. I plan to take my fur this December when I am in Florence and Rome. Seems that there are not too many PETA members in Italy!

Go for it! This is fashion central. No one is going to throw red paint on your fur.

My husband and I are going to Holland and Germany end of March and April. Rain and freezing temps just now. Should I take my fur coat? or will the Dutch people throw tomatoes at me? I'm from San Diego, I know I'm going to freeze my butt over there, but I would rather freeze than have people make rude comments. Don't they wear leather shoes and jackets? Eat meat and poultry? Thanks for the help.

Another "suspicious" post. In any event, you're not gonna to freeze your but off in Holland in April. The Dutch prefer to throw herring at fur coats, not tomatoes. They don't eat much meat or poultry. The typical Dutch diet consist of mostly French Fries, and yes: Herring.

You won't need your fur in Amsterdam. When you're cold, just pop into almost any coffeehouse and ask for their "special" menu. Then partake. Afterwards, you might feel cold, but you won't care.
