My fiancé and I (both men mid 20s) have an Italy trip (Rome, Florence, Venice) this November. For the last day of our trip we fly back into Rome around 8 PM and don't have to be at the airport until around 6 AM. We're trying to find something fun to do overnight but as it's a Monday most nightclubs are closed. We'd be interested in just exploring the streets but don't know how safe that is. Any suggestions are welcome! We have no problem staying up all night because that would just help reset our sleep schedule when we get home. Also any tips on places to store our bags would be welcome. We will have already spent three days in Rome and already have tickets to the Colleseum, Vatican, and Palatine Hill. Thank you!
If you fly into Rome airport from, I presume, Venice (I don’t know why you are flying back to Rome since I would have taken a train as it is faster, but nevertheless) I would simply check into the Hilton at the airport (or the nearby Hilton Garden inn) and get some sleep since you need to be back at the airport at 6am, also because the city is about 40 min from the airport and by the time you are done deplaning and everything else you won’t be in town before 9:30pm. But I’m not 20 year old anymore, so my priorities are not clubbing all night anymore. If you are into that, as you are almost 4 decades younger than I, and since you are a gay couple, you might consider checking the “Coming Out” bar near the Colosseum. They are open till 2am on Mondays.
