Water Taxis in Venice

When we arrive in Venice, we have already decided that we want to take a water taxi directly from the airport to our hotel (which has a water landing). I know it will be pricey but there are 4 of us and we will be splitting the cost. I have seen some websites (aka venicelink.com) where you can prebook your taxi for about 90euros. Does it make sense to do this or would it be better to walk to the taxis and try to hire one on the spot? Thanks!

Have you tried asking your hotel for a recommendation? It would be a good starting point. Good luck.

We took the alilaguna, which departs from the same port location and their were plenty to choose from when we were there. I believe there was a taxi stand of sorts too.

You can do either, however the only way you will likely get a discount is to book in advance through the website. The fare is "in theory" a set price from Marco Polo to Venice proper. It is usually 100 to 105 euros. It is, quite frankly, a wonderful way to get to Venice from the airport. You will feel like James Bond. Booking in advance should get you an 85 euro fare or about 21 euro per person. That is only about 8-9 euro more than the Alilaguna boat each. Go for it.

My daughter and I were in Venice last June. We arrived with no reservation for the water taxi, and we just walked to the pier and got a taxi with no problems. It was 100 euro for the two of us and was the perfect way for my daughter to see Venice for the first time. I am so glad I took the water taxi. I had taken the bus from the airport before and while the bus is very much cheaper, it was not as scenic or exciting.

Good thinking. When you split the cost four ways, the water taxi is a much more tempting option. Have fun! You'll love Venice, in case you haven't been there before.

This past August we took a water taxi from airport. Was very easy, short walk. Not a big deal for able bodied adults. Water taxi is very cool way to arrive in Venice - our kids are still talking about it! Our hotel, Locanda Orseollo recommended Venezia Taxi. We paid $110E but we were a party of five wiht luggage. We prebooked with Venezia Taxi, e-mail is [email protected] I got the impression you really didn't need to pre-book, there seemed to be a bunch of these taxis around.

Michael - good advice. I emailed my hotel and they suggested I prebook since the standard fare is 100Euro. thanks for all of the suggestions! We are all super excited about it - I have been to Italy before but not Venice so this should be fun.

We were just in Venice. Took a bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma for 3 Euro each and then walked 100 feet to the vaporetto stop to buy our 3 day passes, then took the vaporetto to our B&B. It was like getting the vaporetto passes free. Saved a lot of money and we had fun on the bus and waterbus. It was a good way to get oriented to Venice. A lady in our B&B had a rough ride on the water taxi from the airport and got seasick.
