Water Taxi from train station to San Marco

I am wondering how far the train station is from the San Marco sights. We are staying near the train station and have heard it is 30 minutes by water. Is this correct? If this is true we will want to get closer. Thanks.

20 to 30 minutes, depending on which water bus line you use. But not all of Venice's sights are at San Marco. The train station isn't bad - you can walk everywhere and the Rialto isn't far away.

Dru, San Marco is not really far from the train station but it is about 30 minutes down the Grand Canal on the #1 Vaporetto going to Lido. The #1 is the "local" and stops at every stop. You can shorten this a bit by taking the #2 vaporetto which is an express. Same cost but it skips several smaller stops.

ACTV, who runs the public vaporetto system says it takes 36 minutes from the train station to San Marco Vallaresso on teh #1 vaporetto.

the faster #2 vaporetto takes 25 minutes.

Wherever you stay, you'll be 30 minutes from something you'll want to see in Venice. And 30 minutes on a vaparetto can be a fascinating sightseeing journey. We always get vaparetto passes and hop on & off, getting off at some random stop and just exploring. So it doesn't really matter where you stay.

Being close to the train station has its advantages. If you liked the hotel enough to book it in the first place, I'd say just stay there and don't worry!
