water mark pictures

I have seen a picture (holy family) done in a water mark style. When hung in a window, it looks like alabaster. Does anyone know where in Italy to get something like that? Rome, Florence, Venice?

Volterra is famous for alabaster carvings, if that helps.

I meant it looks like alabaster but actually is a water mark picture on paper.
