We just arrived in Florence yesterday and this morning woke up to no water. I checked the Florence Daily News and the Lungarno Opposite the Uffizi collapsed. It's a major problem that is effecting water in the entire city of Florence. Anyone know anymore? We went and bought some bottled water - although some of it is mineral - but just waiting to see what will develop. I think we have a little water pressure back where we are staying closer to pitti palace. We have tickets to Uffizi later, so wondering how that will work with all the emergency vehicles in the area. Will head over later.
Oh no. I hope you have enough drinking water! I will be there in two weeks. Kup and hang in there
And here www.telegraaf.nl/buitenland/25863549/__20_auto_s_in_riool_Florence__.html for some pictures.
and in English with raw video footage:=
It was apparently caused by the rupture in one water main which soaked and weakened the soil under the roadway.
I'm sure you can cross either Ponte Vecchio or Ponte alla Carraia. Traffic is affected, but in your case you would go on foot anyhow.
Wow!! Pics are incredible!! Heading there in a few weeks...keep us posted!!
I saw the story on BBC this morning, and again on the local news at noon. That's a major collapse and I imagine repairs will take many months.
We've had similar problems here with water pipes bursting, albeit not on the same scale as in Florence.
