Is it safe to brush your teeth with tap water while in sicily? Have ice in your drinks, etc? I don't want to get sick while I'm there.
Water in Sicily is safe to drink.
If you're staying in an apartment you should check with your host. Water supplies can be intermittent in some parts of Sicily and apartment blocks often have a reserve tank on the roof. This means that the tap water is perfectly safe for cooking and cleaning your teeth but you may prefer bottled water for drinking. No problem ice in bars, salads, that sort of thing. If you are staying in an agritourism out in the country, water might be from a well. I live in Italy and only drink tap water at home but when I travel I always check with my host if it's ok.
The water in our apartment in Ortigia tasted of salt.
The host didn’t inform us until we messaged to ask, then she said “Oh, you have to buy water. “
(Iffy Airbnb host.)
I believe this is common in Ortigia.
In Palermo it was quite fine and tasted normal.
