We just went yesterday. The funicular from Trapani will be closed the month of November for annual maintenance. So we decided to drive. The GPS on our car kept taking us to very undeveloped dirt roads. After 3 trys, we found a route that worked, even though the road was marked closed. After 2 hours and much laughter, we finally made. Was getting dark, but we made it to Paticceria Maria Grammatico, that Rick raves about.
What did is your opinion of Maria's pastries? I had hoped to go there last month, but ran out of time.
Maria’s pastries were excellent. Many have marzipan as an ingredient, which I loved.
We drove up as well last summer. It had been windy and the funicular was closed. I had intended for us to find a taxi up but gps took us straight to top. No way to turn around once you get started!
We went to Paticceria Maria Grammatico as well. We ended up eating there as it was not crowded because of the lousy weather. Delicious!! Not as sweet as American pastries. We would have been sick had we eaten the quantity of pastries in US as we did there! We had intended to take some with us but ended up just having a feast. The almond cookies were simply to die for.
