I know that there are no Walmarts in Italy (thankfully), but does anyone know if there are any larger retailers similar to a Walmart/Target in or near Florence? We're getting married in Tuscany this summer and need to pick up some supplies for the party. Thanks for your help!

I don't know if there is one near Florence, but I have always thought that the COOP stores in Italy reminded me of small Walmarts. You might try googling it to see if there is one in the vicinity of Florence.

There's a chain here called Emisfero which is sort of like an Italian Walmart. I'm pretty sure they have some locations in or near Florence but I can't guarantee that. A couple other store names to look for would be Ipermercato or Iperfamilia which are pretty much the same thing (I think they might even be affiliated). You usually find them in the big commercial centers, called Centro Commerciale.
