Trouble with recommending tours is few if any have been on identical tours so that they can compare. We have used Angel tours and thought they were very good.

We did the Walks of ITALY "Pristine Sistine" early morning tour last May, and it was great. Small group with our own headsets, a very knowledgeable guide who brought us to parts of the museums before the crowds arrived. Despite the crowds we could see later, we felt like we had the place almost to ourselves.

Walks of Italy is a very high quality outfit with small group tours. I have enjoyed them enormously.

Plenty of restaurant recommnedations have been made on the Helpline recently. Just use the search box above.

We're using Through Eternity tours -- great reviews, and they're very flexible about catering to the varied age/interest groups.

Based on my experience last April, if you really want to get the most out of a visit to the Sistine Chapel you would need to book a special more limited tour. On the regular Vatican Museum visit they herd you into the chapel at the end, squeezed in a crowd with a few fleeting minutes to take it in.
