walks of italy

I am going to rome next month with my teenage daughter. Would like to do some tours in Italy. Heard the walks of italy tours are good. Any one have a good or bad experience with the group? I tried signing up for a discount using 10ricksteves and they asked for a question from a book Rome 2016. I bought the book for Kindle. It asks for the second church listed on Page 91 of that book. Ugh...the kindle doesnt have pages and you know there are a lot of churches listed in the book. Does anyone have the actual book? Sometimes using technology doesnt pay :)
thanks for your input.

Walks of Italy does a great job.

I would write back to them and tell them you have the Kindle and no page numbers. They should give you a little leeway on that!

Did several Walks of Italy tours. All were fantastic. Only one tour had 12 people in our group. All the others 8 or less. The Pristine Sistine is a must.

I've done four with Walks of Italy. Their new Palace of Caesar Augustus + Colosseum + Forum was fantastic for history buffs because of their passionate guide Angela. There were only the four of us. A few years ago I did the driving tour around Rome as a last minute substitute for the Pristine Sistine when the cardinals took over the Sistine for a big vote. It was only my daughter and I, and we covered sights from the Appian Way to Janiculum that would have taken several days to find on public transport. That was a fun one. I've done the Pristine Sistine twice. It's absolutely worth the money just to get into the chapel when it's peaceful. That said, I think Vatican Museums plus St. Peter's is a lot for one tour. This April St. Peter's was very crowded with pilgrims, and our guide was not as engaged as our first one (Cecilia) had been. Both times I've been frustrated to race through all the contemporary art galleries on the way to St. Peter's. I would still recommend it for the early entrance to the Sistine Chapel.

We did a fun walking tour of Testaccio with Eating Italy in April with a group of 8. Go hungry! This was my first walking food tour, but I will definitely look for more of these.

We did 2 tours with them last year-Colloseum/Forum/Palantine & their Underground Rome-and had great guides for both. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Me too, all good, and the staff at their US toll-free phone line are excellent and very helpful. Sounds like they must have so many requests for the RS discount that they need to do a little pre-screening!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I booked the Pristine Sistine plus the nightime colisseum and the crypts.
The customer service person was very helpful. for the kindle they made me forward a receipt that I actually bought it on Kindle and then I got 10% off.

Just spoke with Sasha at Walks of Italy customer service, who was so completely lovely my worries about the expense of this trip have dissipated! If you find the online booking sites to be confusing I highly recommend calling the 800#. I'm looking forward to our tour and will post a review afterwards.

I also booked 3 tours with them for our upcoming trip in August. Everyone writes very highly of them so we booked with them. I report back after our holiday.

I used the Walks of Italy tour company while in Rome. I thoroughly enjoyed them. My daughter was not as excited as I was because she didnt like getting up early or having to be on a schedule. Cecilia for the Borghese tour was the best. She is an actual art historian. On the crypts tour, our guide was a practicing archeologist and was very passionate about the subject. I also did the Pristine Sistine which was advertised as a chance to get into the chapel before any one else but really there was still a number of groups there with the same idea. However, we came back to the chapel after going back through the museums and it was packed so being early was helpful. That particular tour was very fast paced. The coliseum tour at night was nice because it was definitely not as crowded as it could have been. Overall, I loved the history lessons!

Ruth,
I'm so glad to read your positive review of the walking tour of Testaccio with Eating Italy because I just signed up for it for our trip this fall.
