Walking tours of Rome

Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a good guide for a walking tour of Rome? We have 2 days there before the start of our escorted tour & thought a walking tour w/ a good guide would be a great way to get our bearings & get over some jet lag. Thanks in advance!!

Rick's books do indeed include some recommendations. Two I personally used and enjoyed are Francesca Caruso, [email protected] and Walks of Italy, http://www.walksofitaly.com. With Francesca, a private guide, we toured the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. It was fantastic! Educational, interesting, personalized; Just the two of us and Francesca. She would be excellent at giving you an overview tour. Email her about your ideas. Walks of Italy took us on the "Pristine Sistine" tour of the Vatican Museums, in a small group of 8. Very engaging guide, very worthwhile tour. They have several offerings on their website apart from the Vatican.

In case you don't get a response, I'm pretty sure the RS Italy book includes recommendations for guides. Best wishes.

If you'll be fighting jet lag you may want to do an audio tour. They guide you through the city but you can go at your own pace stopping where you wish. I like the pocketvox.com tours and also the Italyguides.it guides. They are both well done and offer lots of information. You can also check with romecabs.com. They do a walking tour of the city that is very good and not too expensive. I believe it's 50 euros per hour for up to 8 people. Donna

To throw another option out there, we went with Rich Brunn, an American who lives and teaches in Rome. He was highly informative and reasonably priced. You can check out his set tours at http://www.rome-day-tours.com/ and he does personalize them as much as you want.
