Any suggestions of a walking tour of Venice just to get a verbal background of it's history. I like oral history from a local or a historian. Anyone had such an experience. Thank you
I believe Steves has some in his book although Ive never used then myself.

Have not used her but found her on the Journey Woman website. A website that always has good travel info.
Enjoy your visit
I've used the Rick Steves walking tours of Venice. Fantastic! The pub crawl one is a little tougher to navigate but not impossible. They're in his Venice guidebook. Not sure about the Italy guidebook, but for sure the Venice one.
We have found this book to be wonderful resource for Venice. I believe that you will find it covers the background and information you are wanting. It is well laid out with walking tours, maps and modern as well as historical info, art, architecture and culture. If can get it before you leave I think you'll like it.

Carol, I'm with you--I like to have a walking tour to obtain the verbal oral history. I'm going to Venice again in the fall and plan to utilize one of the guides listed in Rick's Venice book. There are several listed--just contact them via e-mail ahead of time to verify their prices and arrange for your tour.
