Hello everyone,
I will be going to Rome in the next month and have planned a couple of day trips. For one of them, the train leaves at 5:30am (to Venice). Is it safe to walk from my hotel to Roma Termini at 5am? Is it a safe walk when I return at night at around 10pm? I am about 20 minutes away from it. TIA
I’d check with your hotel. If nervous, perhaps there is a bus that goes there. Check Rome2rio.com.
There will be no problem with safety. Rome is a safe place, 10pm is certainly not late, most people are still out eating dinner at that time and there are many tourists about. I've walked around Rome at midnight and caught the last metro's with no issue whatsoever and I've never witnessed anything that would cause me concern.
If you are apprehensive about the early morning walk, have your hotel arrange a taxi. For a few € you could start your day stress free
I agree with others , take a taxi in am. U will prob need to order one from your hotel the night before. 10 pm is early for italians . Just know where u are going and wear a money belt or neck pouch for sure! If u have lotsa baggage then taxi for sure.
We started our trip with 3 nights in Rome and finished with 1 night back in town before catching the train to FCO. We stayed the last night at the Radisson across the street from the back of Termini. While we did not feel afraid, the area was a little sketchy. Young men kinda milling around with no apparent purpose. Like most others are saying, don't make yourself a target. But it is a beautiful city, get out and enjoy it!!!
Are you a man, a woman, young, old, traveling alone?
I would have no problem walking to/from Termini in the middle of the night, and nothing would happen, but a woman alone, maybe elderly, maybe lugging a bag, should be at least alert. Termini is not the nicest place to hang out at night. Of course nothing compared to Caracas or Rio or even most large American cities, but nevertheless...
The area around Roma termini is not bad. Rome is a safe city. It will be light by then or getting light. I really don’t think there is much to worry about. I would walk it without concern. (Speaking for myself here).
Also even at that time Roma Termini can be a very busy place.
If you read the date on the original post you can see it was in February - the trip was to be a month later in March.
Not much light, I don't think, at 5 am in Rome in March. I bet the OP is back home by now.
