Walking to Polignano a Mare

If I were to stay at, Hotel Covo die Saraceni, how far is it to walk to the old town area? Is the walk a steep one?

It will good to learn how to figure this out on your own.
If you need any confirmation that the walk is almost as flat as a pancake— I can confirm.

Flat as a pancake is good. If I were staying at the hotel, I would want to be able to go into the old town area to sightsee and also to eat.

Your hotel is really close to the centro storico ( old town) and the iconic beach in Polignano a Mare called “Lama Monachile.” It’s also called “Cala Porto.”
If you’re looking for a really good restaurant in the old town, you can’t beat “Il Grottino.” It’s on a pedestrian-only street in the old town and has great food at reasonable prices. One of the best meals I had in Italy this month.
Cheers!

Thank you for this information. You sound as though you have actually visited the town. Is the walk a safe one to go alone? (I am an 84 year old woman, but fully able to walk, although no longer as far or as steep, and think!). Actually, I would not be looking for a "really good" restaurant but just casual places where I would be able to each small meals by myself.

Polignano a Mare is completely safe— no worries at all during any time of day or night. Three weeks ago, we stayed in a local apartment on Via Sirene Street just outside of the old town and it’s a small, beautiful and fun town. The central old town is completely pedestrianized, so you don’t even have to worry about cars.
The pedestrianized street a couple blocks from the apartment had lots of coffee cafes and restaurants. It’s called Via Roma and that’s where Il Grottino is located. Lots of casual restaurants.
Have a great time in Polignano a Mare!

The hotel is practically in the historical center, so just 5 min walk.
No steep climbs, and very safe.

Hi, I will be staying in your hotel next May because my favorite room at the POSEA across the inlet from your hotel is booked. I have stayed at the POSEA this past May and also the year prior. The town is very flat, and you are only a couple of minutes from the old entrance gate. Just be careful if it rains because the beautiful stone polished streets can be a little slippery. Take a walk early in the morning before day trip people arrive, and you can have the gorgeous little lanes to yourself for some beautiful photographs!

Thank you, Jean. It sounds great. I've learned to be careful on wet slippery cobblestone streets. Barcelona in the morning was tretcherous!
