Hi, I have seen some information in Italian, that indicate the path Scalinata del Monte alle Croci to walk to Piazzale Michelangelo may be closed for repair. Has anyone been to Florence recently and walked on this path? Many thanks.
This is what you're seeing, right?
Doesn't sound good for opening any time soon but will keep digging.
This is disappointing. We leave for Florence soon and this was a site we really wanted to see. I'm guessing bus 12 can still get us there.
I believe there are other walking paths, but time is valuable on vacation and don't want to start out then have to take an alternate route.
I was there last week. The path is closed. You have to walk up the road. It didn’t take that long I didn’t think. It was steep though.
KB, I was wondering if the road was still accessible. At least it's one way on foot!
Hi, KB - would you share which road you took? Thanks!
Kathy - thanks for investigating!
You bet. Sorry I couldn't find more encouraging news.
However you get there, it's WELL worth expending the shoe leather...and calories.
Gotta earn all that pasta. HA!
There is an open-air bar up there for re-hydrating with an adult beverage. We had several.
Kathy - excellent! Definitely planning on it!
Actually, there are several places up there for grabbing adult beverages, if they're all still there. 🍺🍷
Hi TCM. I took Via San Miniato which becomes Via del Monte aloe Croci. It ends at the boot I’m of the hill where the basilica of San Miniato sits. You just turn left and the Piazzale and the views are right there. There was one little cafe open and a hot dog stand. I went first thing in the morning and the fancier restaurant was not open at that time.
I met others walking the same route and others coming down saying it wasn’t much further. I didn’t find the walk too bad. The road was also not busy at that time as it was a Sunday morning.
Thanks very much, all this info is so helpful!
