I have seen a lot of posts stating that shorts are not worn by women, but how about men ? As part of our 2 weeks in Italy (in May), we will be 5 days on the Amalfi Coast and am wondering if I should pack a pair of walking shorts (longer, to the knee) for the warmer weather. Or am I better off to stick with long pants?

You are going to the beach and plannng on some hiking, of course bring shorts.

Shorts are perfectly fine for both men and women when hiking or at the beach.

I spent almost a week there last year with my wife's Italian relatives. They all wore shorts and so did I.
Relax and wear what you are comfortable in.

Hi, Susan,
We had a wonderful trip to the Amalfi Coast in September. The area is different than Rome or Florence; not so formal, much more resort-like. You will be fine in shorts for men or women. Take good walking shoes. The climate is alot like California so dress like you would at home. Cool evenings and mornings. Most of the tourists are British and American so English is well spoken.
