Walking safety for women at night in Milan

My daughter and I will be arriving in Milan around 10 pm and are wondering about how safe it is for women and girls to walk/travel from the airport to our hotel at such an hour.

It is always kind of relative. I think it is safe but you might not. First are you arriving at the airport or the train station at 10 pm? Second where is your hotel? It could be more convenient to take a taxi from the train station. It would be OK to walk a couple of blocks if your hotel is near the train station. A little more info would be helpful.

We're flying to Milan in June and arriving at about 10 pm on a Lufthansa flight. From my research it seems like the Malpensa Shuttle is the best way to get to Milan from MXP unless you are traveling at rush hour then you might consider the train. The Bus will drop you off either at the main Milan train station or near the convention center on Via Tederico. I would think you are safe near the train station. You will probably have a bus full of people, the same folks you saw on the plane. Catching a taxi or walking to your hotel near the train station should not be a problem, IMHO. We stayed near Termini in Rome two years ago and never felt like we were in any Jeopardy. In summary, I think the location of your hotel is the most important issue. The main train station in Milan is pretty close to the Duomo and La Scalla.

"The main train station in Milan is pretty close to the Duomo and La Scalla.' Milan Centrale is a couple miles north of the Duomo.

I think Ted is referring to the Cordona Station which is walkable to the Doma. I don't think he is posting from experience and no idea what Rome's Termini station has to do with the question. You do need to know where you hotel is in relation to the train stations since both train station are reachable via train from the airport. We do make the assumption that you are using the Central station. The shuttle bus drops at the SE corner of the Central train station. It is probably a block walk to the front of the front of the station on the west side. It faces a plaza. There is a wide range of hotels across plaza and down those streets.
