Walkabout Florence Tours-Too big??

Hi,

I have seen a lot about Walkabout Florence Tours. I was considering doing their Best of Tuscany Tour but saw that some people said the group was way too large and in some cases they were lost or left behind. Some also felt like it wasn't really a tour, just free time in each spot. Looking to see if others felt this way also. If so, could you recommend a smaller but similar tour?

Additionally, I was looking at their Chianti Wine and Food Safari. I see this tour is small but was wondering if anyone has been on it and what their thoughts were.

Thanks so much!

I did the Walkabout Florence Chianti Wine and Food Safari during the summer of 2015. I had a great time! I was a "single" and there were some couples and some families of 3 or 4. Altogether, including our guide, there were 18 people on the smallish bus, and it did not feel too big (and I do not usually appreciate, or often take, group tours). We stopped first at one beautiful vineyard (with lovely gardens alongside the villa). Good wine tasting there, with some small bites of cheeses and breads to accompany, etc. Next stop was at a vineyard with lovely restaurant connected to it where we had a delicious lunch of several courses and three wines. It was beautiful weather, so we ate out on the veranda outside, under an arbor, looking out over a lovely Tuscan valley. Last stop was another vineyard, very old and historic (old Roman road runs through it), again several wines to taste, and small bites to accompany. I felt that the guide was personable, attentive, and shared lots of information, ideas, and insights. It was a lovely day, well thought out, with time also allotted to do our own strolling through vineyards, or along lookouts over beautiful Tuscan valleys. I would recommend this day to adults who appreciate good food and good wine, at a steady yet leisurely pace, and also appreciate photo ops of vineyards and scenic vistas (especially if they continue to offer it with a "smaller" bus of 18 people, and not a larger bus of some 30-40 people. That would really change the mood and energy of the group and the day.)

Also check Tours by Roberto. His tours are all small - limit approx. 8 people, and he does some tours specifically aimed at visiting vineyards. He offers some 6 or so regular tours; the first person to sign up on a date gets to pick which tour runs on that date.
