The streets are VERY narrow with no sidewalks from the train/bus station in Sorrento to the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. The area as seen on Google Street View does not appear to be in a very good section of Sorrento. Suggestions? Can you still walk with your luggage and be safe? Thank you.

I'm not sure what route you're looking at, but if you go to the Ulisse website, it will tell you how to do this: How to walk to Ulisse. See the "By train" section. You can even use Streetview to see what it looks like - sidewalks all the way. Happy travels.
If you come in by boat, TAKE THE BUS UP THE HILL! It is well worth the one or two euro charge! The walk to the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel is easy. It's not in the center of Sorrento but nicely located and the facility is top-knotch! Like Rick says in the book, hostel in name only! When we go again, we plan on staying there again.
Can't tell you about the walk to the hostel but the streets leading from train are not narrow and all have sidewalks at least in the train area.
And there is no bad section of Sorrento.
We got off the train in Sorrento in late afternoon. The streets were crowded but four of us had no problem getting to the Ulisse Deluxe Hotel. We did get a bit confused only to find out we were just a few yards from the hotel entrance. It was a great place to stay. The sidewalks were narrow, but aren't they all in Italy?
Thanks to all for the comments. We are looking forward to our trip!
There are wide sidewalks all the way except for the last 50 feet-just walk from the station to Corso Italia , take a left and follow it, you'll see a hospital on the rightthere is a staircase down to the road below just past the hospital, follow it downhill about 100 yardsthe hotel is on the left past the pay parking lot (sidewalk narrow this final section) The entire area is clean and safe. Its a wonderful place to stay. Paul

There's a less congested alternative to get to your hotel. Rather than going down from the train station to Corso Italia, go up to Via degli Aranci which parallels Corso Italia. The sidewalks are a bit wider and there are far fewer pedestrians. Via degli Aranci will eventually intersect with Corso Italia. When it does, cross Corso Italia to the street on the other side and follow it to the hotel, or you could go left on Corso Italia and follow Paul's directions the rest of the way (which sound more direct than the winding Via del Mare). You can see the alternative route by looking at the RS map of Sorrento. I've used Via degli Aranci to get to my hotel and find it better when walking with luggage. IMO, it's also safe.
