VRBO, or other Italian rental sites for longer stays?

My husband and I are planning to spend a month in Tuscany in June. We are hoping to break our stay into two, two week long rentals. We have spent our past trips to Tuscany making quick stops in as many towns as we could fit into our itinerary... So this trip we're looking to slow down and just enjoy being in Tuscany! We've only booked hotels and B&B's for our past trips, so I don't have much experience with other types of rentals. Has anyone used VRBO for longer stays? Or can you recommend other sites for renting in Italy on a small budget? Thanks for any suggestions!

Stephanie, We used VRBO for the 1st time on our trip to Italy in May. We were very happy with our apartments. We stayed in Cortona in a wonderful 2 bedroom apartment just a 10-15 min walk into town. If you are interested I can give you the information. A month in Italy, lucky you!

Stephanie, we have used VRBO and Homelidays.com for most of our apt rentals in Europe. Many others have used Homeaway.com. We just got back from Tuscany and Umbria and stayed at fully self contained apts in Agritourisimos. Both of the ones we stayed at cost less than $75 EU/day for short stays. Both had pools, were close to freeways and great dining options, and had owners on site that spoke excellent English. I am sure that there are many other Agris available, and many would rent for rates much less than that for an extended stay. Be sure that you check options and customer reviews on Trip Advisor and Venere.com

I know of a website that specializes in vacation homes and apartments in Tuscany and Rome. Doris used to live and work in the US and now lives in Italy running this business. I know lots of folks who have used her and give her a big thumbs up. http://www.ancoraitalia.com/

Hi Stephanie, I will add one to the list: cyberrentals.com. They are affiliated with homeaway.com. It is primarily a site for owners listing their properties and because of that, the rates are generally better and you might be able to negotiate. Good luck!

I think Home Away, Cyber Rentals, and some other big European names have all been rolled up by some holding company - just shows how big a business this has become (renting your own villa as an owner). The one I have been recommending for Tuscany is Tuscany Rent Direct which is locally owner and operated from Castellina in Chianti: http://www.tuscanyrentdirect.com
