Volterra or Chianti region?

hi all - in Tuscany right now (staying in Siena).

tomorrow (thursday) is our last day here - we've been to many towns.

we are definitely doing san gimignano in the morning.

the afternoon though - we arent sure. i need your help travel forum members -

Volterra?

or Chianti region?

if chianti, please tell me which towns. yes, we have a rental car.

regardless of your reason, please explain why. be warned: my wife seems to not give a crap about any old churches or frescoes. throughout this trip, when i marvel at them, she seems disinterested, she seems more interested in wine and cute shops. arghh....

I've been to both areas and love both of them. I think from a logistical point of view, I would go with Volterra. A smallish town with some alabaster workshops and sales and cute shops. There is an interesting walk through town but not sure of timing. The small towns in Chianti are obviously wine centric but I remember them as very small towns and you would probably want to drive to several. Greve, Castellina, and Radda come to mind. The views between towns are amazing. But if you like to linger with a cappacino in the morning before making your way to SG, I would opt for Volterra.

you can do all if you leave early.
Volterra first, spend a few hours. Then SG, spend an hour or two. Then drive to Castellina and Radda. No need to stop, except for a few photo opps, and maybe a wine tasting somewhere. Finally back to Siena.

I agree about Volterra. It's a pretty short drive from San Gimigano out there. We really enjoyed visiting there.
Chianti is the region southeast of Florence.
