We're scheduled to leave next Saturday from JFK to Dublin to Rome on Aer Lingus. Volcano is again causing cancelled flights into Dublin. We will be SO disappointed if our trip is cancelled. Planning got us through a long New England winter. And now it seems it may all have been for nothing. Already feeling dread and disappointment. And I've one helluva a year at work. Italy was to be my own personal reward. ARRrggHH.
Linda, I am leaving next week ,, so of course watching that stupid ash cloud too.
I wouldn't throw in towel to easily,, can you fly into Rome instead of Dublin( seems Rome is a better bet ash cloud wise) Also, some people have just had flights delayed by a day or two,, so perhaps we will both be lucky.
Never say uncle.. and remember, most airlines do reschedule flights,, so if you have a hotel room, you may just have to cancel and possibly pay only first night cancellation fees.. it may just be a delayed holiday ,,not a total bust( and hopefully work is understanding, it would p(ss me off if employers were nit picky about changing time off dates)
Good luck.
Hi Pat: Thanks for the encouragement. I know we won't be the only one disappointed if there are snafu's with trip plans. I've already started to look at other options like flying right into Rome instead of through Dublin. Best wishes to you, as well, in your travels.
We came through Dublin on Aer Lingus one week ago & it was a total mess. Too many passengers for the number of seats/bathrooms. You may have already tried but, if there's ANY way possible, reroute to avoid DUB. We were able to get out with only a six hour delay but it's probably not going to be a pleasant experience. Pack lots of patience and next time go non-stop.
Hi Paul - we've already started to look at Plan B flights on other airlines and departing from other airports. The prices are double what we paid for the original trip on Aer Lingus. So as desparate as I am for my Italy fix . . . just can't manage a $4,000.00 airfare. Thanks for the head up though. It's nice to know ahead of time that things could get ugly.
I think currently transatlantic flights are scheduled to fly for the most part, but the route is much further south than usually. That adds 1-2 hours to the trip compared to the much shorter Northern route. Which also means that close connections in Europe could be missed. That's an area I'd look at for back-up plans.
I've been checking Aer Lingus website daily for the past week or so. Yesterday the daily flight from JFK to Dublin departed a minute early and arrived ten minutes early. Only four days until we depart. Hope springs eternal!
