Vodafone - no more visitor offer?

When I checked in March, Vodafone said they would not be offering the 30-day visitor SIM package after April. I've checked again and sure enough, the previous offer is gone and it doesn't appear that a new offer replaced it. it looks like the similar offer at TIM is still available, but I can't see that it includes any text messages. Plus, previous posters have reported the phone coverage and customer service from TIM wasn't as good as Vodafone.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best option for an Italian SIM card for a month? I need data, phone and text messages included. My home provider charges $10/day to a max of 10 days, or $100. I think a 30-day Italian SIM will be a lot cheaper than that, plus I'd like to have a local number while I'm there.

Nelly,

It sounds like you have the same "home provider" as I do. I used their plan for my 30 day trip last year and while $100 was a bit pricey, it worked remarkably well. On a trip that's costing $5K+ the cost of the roaming plan was a minor detail.

I'm assuming you're using an unlocked Smartphone? The only suggestion I can offer is to check the TIM and WIND websites. I was also going to suggest the "travel SIM" firms, but their data coverage is usually expensive.

Good luck!

I see nothing in the Vodafone.it website that would indicate that the Vodafone Holiday plan is no longer offered. Nothing has changed as far as I can tell.

I'm an (happy) Wind customer, but it's widely known that TIM has the best coverage all over Italy.

When you are in the mountains and there is no signal from Vodafone and/or Wind you always look for some TIM customer to lend his phone.

Are you looking up this offer? www.tim.it/offerte/mobile/estero/dallitalia/tim-for-visitor-uk No texts, only internet traffic and calling time.

You'll have to buy a new TIM sim (i.e "activate a new line) which costs €10, but includes €5 of initial credit. You could use this credit to text home a few times. All in all, if you decide to go with TIM you'd better learn how to use an app like Whatsup or Viber to send texts via the internet.
