Vodafone Italy Pack

Does anyone know the cost of an Italy Pack from Vodafone? (basic phone plus pay-as-you-go SIM). It's listed on their Italian site but without any cost information.

Mike, My translation may not be "perfect", but as near as I can determine, here's the details: > Vodaphone Italy Pack costs - €49 > The basic cost MAY include €20 of usage charges > 10¢ per minute for talk with any mobile numbers in Italy > 10¢ for each sent text message in local area > 60¢ per minute for calls in Italy (country zone 1) > 30¢ each for texts sent to other parts of Italy (Of course, the "cents" refers to Euro cents) I tried Google translate, but it seemed to be in "brain lock" this morning, so I had to resort to my Italian language training (I can manage reasonably well, but not completely fluent yet). This is the website I obtained the information from. Buon Viaggio!

Thanks, Ken, much obliged. Your translation was close - very close - here's the English page that I had found earlier without the cost information. http://www.vodafone.it/engl/living/italy_pack.html It's actually a pretty good deal for a travel phone. The 10c per minute is for any fixed or mobile number in Italy (fissi e mobile) - the 10c per SMS is also in Italy. The other rates are for calling / texting out of country (dall'Italia). Having researched most of the pre-trip rental options available, nothing comes close to those rates and the convenience of a pay-as-you-go phone. It's interesting that Google doesn't find the Italian page when one searches for 'vodafone italy pack' - it must have to do with searching translated pages.

Last year I purchased a TIM phone for 29 euro plus minutes (10 were included in the purchase price). It wasn't fancy but I used it to confirm reservations, mostly. There was a 13-month contract, but it was still a bargain. I reloaded minutes without replacing the SIM card and in 3 months I think I spent about 30 euro on additional minutes (including a few calls to the U.S.)

Thanks Zoe, that was quite helpful as well - I had a quick look at TIM's Italian site as well and found that they have several inexpensive pay-as-you-go phones as well. It should be an easy errand to run when we arrive in Italy later this year.

Mike, If you're going to be passing through Roma Termini, there are Cell phone shops downstairs from track level, in the extensive shopping mall there. I can't remember which ones, but believe both TIM and Vodafone have shops there.

Mike, if you don't find a TIM (or Vodafone) store at the airport, you'll find them near the train station or city center of your first destination, I'm sure.

Thank you both, it's been helpful. I'm confident that I'll be able to find a good short-term pay-as-I-go solution when I get there. Grazie mille!
