Viterbo

Have any of you traveled to Viterbo? If so, could you please share some thoughts?

Just got back from Italy and spent two days in Viterbo visiting my daughter who attends school there. It was difficult getting there from Venice but we had her with us to show us the train and bus route. It was the most beautiful view from Hotel Tuscania which was a great place to stay. The old men in town stand on the corner everyday all day long and shout at each other. No one in town speaks English. Good little fresh pasta shop. Everything closes from 1-4. no traffic lights, just hold up your hand. I hope to return someday.

I spent a week in Viterbo 2 summers ago. I would like to go back! It is definitely worth seeing, and you could also go to Orvieto, which is a lovely old town. On our bus we passed a fascinating city on a hill--linked to the main roadway by a bridge, I think. I can't remember the name, but it sure looked interesting. Be sure to see the San Pellegrino section of Viterbo--made me think of Romeo and Juliet.

In summer, it seemed like all the women lived in black and white--white skirt or pants and black tanktop or tshirt with sandals.

Be sure to take sunscreen, as it is very hot in summer. I have no idea what the winter might be like.

Carrie,

I'm wondering if the "city on a hill" connected by a bridge that you saw near Orvieto, might have been Civita di Bagnoregio (one of Rick's favourites)? Your description certainly fits. The bridge isn't capable of taking cars, but the locals use small Motorcycles to get back and forth.

Yes, it is an interesting spot and very unique place to visit!
