visiting vineyards

Trying to decide between Castello di Brolio and Castello di Verrazzano between Florence & Siena for a tour and wine tasting. Planning to be in the area on a Friday in early Oct. Perhaps there's an even better option[INVALID]I highly value the "Travelers" opinions!

Castello di Verrazzano certainly gets my vote. Our tour and 4 course wine tasting lunch was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. I can't comment on your other option, but you would not be disappointed in visiting Verrazzano. Our time spent there was well worth it and I've recommended it to several people who I believe would agree with me. Enjoy your travels.

You might want to try to learn what dates their harvest will occur this year. It varies by geographic location and type of grape, and the weather. Because of the weather dependency, they may not know for sure but possibly could give you some idea.

How did you all book that lunch at Castello di Verrazzano ~ I am having no luck doing it online or emailing them

The weekend is looking rainy and many people who have Merlot are picking it NOW! The Sangiovese, the predominant grape in the area - will come off much late and into October. It is a busy time of the year - so it may be difficult to get a hold of people. I have done the small tasting tour at at Verrazzano (not the full lunch), but only visited the grounds at Brolio. Two very different places in a way. Don't think you can go wrong either place - but personally (I may catch heat for this one) - I am just not crazy about the wine making at Verrazzano. It is good stuff - but not great. Just my opinion!

Anthony: Thank you for the helpful report from "on the ground", it's especially helpful coming from someone who is there. We appreciate each of our Helpline Repliers and are especially grateful to have contributions from those who are residents of Europe and the UK (I know the UK is in Europe, sort of).
