Hello - We will be traveling to Italy next month with friends and plan to visit the Pantheon on a Saturday morning in late October. From looking at the official Pantheon website, the church is free - but tickets are required on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. We are not able to find where to get the 'free' tickets on the site - nor can we determine if the museum actually charges on these days. It looks like you need to purchase the audio guide for 8Euro in order to get a free ticket...?? Does anyone have a recent experience with this? Thank you!
I hope you are successful.
Funny, in all the years I've been going to Rome it is the first time I've heard the Pantheon referred to as a museum.
I always see it as a church that gets lots of sightseers.
The Pantheon is definitely a church; since A.D. 609, Basilica of St. Mary and the Martyrs.
The ecclesiasticall Powers That Be ask that visitors dress accordingly. Try this for making your weekend reservation?

I got there from Rome's official tourism website:

I’ve updated my post to remove ‘museum’ and correct it to ‘church’. Thank you!
I guess I cannot speak to the need for tickets, but is likely due to Covid requirements. The Pantheon has always been, and is still free, and pre-covid, it was just wander in, have a look and on your way.
Now, since the sight is "indoors", a green pass (cdc card) is needed to enter, so they have a couple people checking them. When we walked by a few times on a Monday and a Tuesday, the line to get in extended halfway around the Piazza. I assume on weekends, the line was even longer, so, a ticket scheme, timed entry possibly, makes sense.
The Pantheon is one of my favorite buildings, a stop whenever I am in Rome (well, maybe not this time due to lines), and is interesting to see. There is however little information or displays inside, more just look and see.
