Visiting the Colosseum with kids

Hello, we are family from SA visiting Rome with our kids (3, aged between 10 - 16) mid July. Reading every bit online and even phoning the ticket office in Rome I'm still unclear whether one needs to book actual ticket for the kids as they are entitled to enter for free at the Colosseum. Does one need to book a reservation for them? Of do you book for the adults and collect a free ticket for the kids just before your time slot of entry.

Any guidance will be much appreciated!

Does this help?

Have you booked your adult tickets yet? You would need those to collect tickets for the kids. To add, see posts 415 and 417 on this TA thread linked below; echoes the info on the park's website I've linked above.

Editing to add: the park's website is only active during hours the park is open so if it doesn't come up for you, that's because it's after/before office hours.

thanks Kathy, i have seen that. unfortunately at this point in time there is not even a date available in any of the tickets slots (and with english tours) to be able to see if i can add the kids onto the booking.

OK so the recommended fallback among some folks in the know, if you can't land tickets on the Coopculture site, is to get in line at the NEW onsite ticket office before it opens in the morning and buy your tickets there. You'll get your kid's tickets at the same time. I am reading that your entire group needs to be together and ready to start your Colosseum visit at the time of purchase. You can't, say, buy them for the next day. You'll most likely be assigned a time slot that's for nearly immediate entry. Bring your kids' passports for proof of age; probably most important for your 16 year-old but you're always supposed to have them on you anyway so....

These will most likely also be general-entry tickets but it's possible that you could land a tour that includes the arena. I'm seeing that they do not sell tickets for tours of the underground. Honestly, this could be a lot less painful (and even more successful) than trying to land tickets on the Coopculture site.

You're welcome! Just get there early 'cause the word is out about this new on-site office.

i managed to get one adult ticket last night on the coop site. so in theory, we should be sorted. my daughter is (low vision) disabled and she qualifies for a free entry with an adult together plus free tickets for the other two. we're most definitely going to try and wing it! many thanks for all your help and advice. we will be checking out the ticket office early on our first morning there.

Arg. Now I'm in the weeds.

I'm unsure if you'll need some sort of "official" documentation for proof of the disability. A combo of 2 free kids tickets plus one disability ticket plus one caregiver ticket - and matching the time slot to the one you've purchased - might also be a complication at the ticket office but all you can do is ask. I would have been a little more comfortable if you'd elected to acquire ALL the tickets at one time at the ticket office.

Hopefully someone will know what sort of documentation, if any, you need for your daughter's disability.
