I’m looking forward to seeing all the museums and sights in Florence but I desperately need exercise and fresh air and outdoors activity. Any recommendations on hiking/walking/biking near Florence or places to go and stay?
Little San Miniato near Pisa is very close to some nice countryside walks (and a good bike rental shop). I bet heading to Livorno on the train (about an hour) and walking the lungomare would be nice on a sunny day. To stay, I liked the mountains above Lucca. You are close to some stunning countryside. Add your time frame and transport preferences for really detailed ideas.
You can do outdoors activity while staying in Florence, if you don't want to change accommodations. Some itineraries start in the city itself, others are just a short bus ride away (e.g. Monte Ceceri at Fiesole or Monte Morello above Sesto Fiorentino)
