Visiting Rome for a long weekend - accommodations and site seeing suggestions

Hello!
I will be flying into Rome on Friday, Oct 24 and a family member will be meeting me on Saturday. We are staying through Monday or Tuesday before heading to Sicily. Any hotel or B&B recommendations? We are seasoned travelers although not much time in Italy. Would love any neighborhood or specific suggestions from this forum. 3-4 stars with 2 beds. Our trip is not long, so we don't need a kitchen so airB&B not necessary unless it's a great deal.

I loved seeing the Colosseum over ten years ago. Is it worth getting tickets again or what other sites do you recommend?

Thank you!

Many of us on the forum like staying where we’re able to walk to almost all the major sights, in the Campo de Fiori, Pantheon, or Piazza Navona neighborhoods. In the Campo de Fiori neighborhood a lot of people on the forum love Hotel Smeraldo. I haven’t stayed there, but in 2024 we stayed nearby at Hotel Damaso, and loved it. It’s a small hotel in a building that was completely renovated several years ago. Nice modern elevator, plenty of charging outlets in the rooms, and beautiful updated bathrooms. Super comfortable beds and double paned windows to keep out the noise. We really enjoyed the breakfast each morning and you can enjoy cocktails on the roof at the end of the day. We stayed in one of their smaller twin rooms and didn’t feel cramped. Would absolutely return to this hotel!

I recommend the Eating Rome Taste of Testaccio food tour. It introduces you to a part of the city that isn’t jam packed with tourists, and provides lots of interesting history in addition to lots of great local foods. Exceptional guides — check out their reviews! After our tour we visited John Keats grave at the Protestant Cemetery, then walked through the orange grove and rose garden (none of which were crowded) back into the city. The walk back to the hotel allowed us to walk around the Circus Maximus and enjoy the exterior of the Colosseum.

hey hey mberlin8
are you flying in from USA/Canada/Europe? what is your budget in euros and what are you looking for with 3-4* as in amenities, the higher the *(stars) the more you pay.
look at booking.com and place your filters on left side. checkin times are 3-4pm, ask for early check in or leave luggage and return by checkin. it's still high season as it's harvest/festival & fair time. rome will be busy like it is all year long.
colosseo.it
check the website and what kind of tickets are available. they sell out fast and for months, you may get lucky.
so many things to see and do. your time is short as you know plus it's a weekend. don't forget your gelato
eatingeurope.com/ rome
a food tour (taste of testaccio or eternal rome: jewish ghetto/camp de'fiori)
gpsmycity.com/ rome
self guided walking tours, pick what you like and download app
other tours out there, many are resellers you can check out, no guarantees.
hope all works out for you family member, have fun and enjoy
aloha
