Visiting Pompeii from Amalfi town

We will be visiting in late April. Our original plan was to fly into Naples, spend the day and night there, then visit Pompeii on our way to our base in Amalfi town. However, my boyfriend doesn’t trust the luggage service at either Pompeii or the Pompeii Circumvesuviana station and has decided he’d rather head straight to Amalfi by private transfer from the airport and visit Pompeii one day from Amalfi.

So my question is, what is the best way to visit Pompeii from Amalfi? I found some bus tours that leave from Amalfi, but they only spend 2 hours in Pompeii and I don’t want our time to be so limited. I would prefer to take a guided tour when we arrive and then wonder around ourselves more following the tour.

Do you know of any group tours that go from Amalfi for longer than 2 hours? Or are we better off getting to Sorrento by ferry or bus and then taking the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii?

Thank you!

I would do the latter: get to Sorrento (bus is very scenic) then take the train to Pompeii. The ferry is good and probably faster, but not scenic as it is a hydrofoil. You might take that one way, though.

So you boyfriend makes all the decisions? You have nothing to say about it? Get a private transfer to Pompeii Scavi. Another to Amalfi.

Your boyfriend is wrong about Pompeii luggage check. I've never seen a complaint here from a user.

Pompeii from Amalfi by public transport is a brutally long day with waits for the next transport "seat." Hiring a car and driver requires paying for the waiting time, of course. How about doing that on the way, so the driver watches your stuff in his car while you pay for the prearranged waiting time. Pompeii can be brutally hot in May. Don't know about April.

I think you should consider having a driver pick you up in Naples, bringing you to Pompei and then bringing you to Amalfi.
In June, we had very good service from this driver. We traveled between Amalfi, Sorrento and Pompeii.
