My family is considering visiting Pompeii as a day trip out of Rome. What is the best way to travel to/from Pompeii? Do you have any suggestions for shuttles or tour guides?
Thanks!
The RS Rome book gives you all the details you will need. It will be the smartest money you spend on your vacation. Best wishes.
The best way is via train since the train dumps you at the front door. You can pick up a guide at the entrance. It will be a very long day to do a day trip from Rome.
Best to stay in Sorrento and take the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii.
Pompeii is an easy day trip from Rome. There are two trains involved. The fast train from Rome to Naples and the commuter train from Naples to the ruins, pompeii scavi. Just book your tickets from Rome to Naples then, once in Naples buy your tickets for the circumvesuviana train. This should cost less than 10 euros round trip. The fast train from Rome will take just over an hour and the commuter train will take about 30 minutes. You can hire a guide on site. Bring some water and wear a hat. There is very little shade. Thank you!
