Visiting Pisa, best suggestions

Hello,

I am going to be in Florence for a few nights, then I go to Siena for two before heading to Cinque Terre. One of my travel companions really wants to stop in Pisa and maybe Luca. We are traveling by trains. My thought would be to take the train from Florence one morning to Pisa, (how hard is it to get to the leaning tower from the train station?), then train to Luca for a meal before heading back to Florence. I estimate this would roughly be a 6 hour adventure.

The other thought was to stop in Pisa on our way from Siena to Cinque Terre but I really wanted to get to Cinque Terra by 2pm the latest. Any thoughts from those of you that are familiar with similar experineces?

Thank you!!

I wouldn’t cut your already too short time in Florence but if you do -take train to Pisa Rossore station -easy walk to Tower, etc from there

Pisa Centrale is about a 30 min walk
( there is a bus as well)

I think your day will be a lot longer than 6 hours
Figure about 4 hours total in transit
1.5 to Pisa
40 to Lucca
1:5 to Florence
Plus time to get to/from stations

You might consider taking 1 night from Siena and giving it to Florence so this day trip to Pisa/Lucca fits better

A few years ago we traveled from Florence to Lucca to Pisa and back to Florence that evening. Trains were frequent and not expensive. I believe I recall a bus ran from the Pisa station directly to the tower area and back to the station, very easy again.

Our visit to Pisa was our second so a quick visit to the tower was sufficient for us. It was an enjoyable day if somewhat rushed but we knew that up front. Safe travels.

Well neither would I
It’s a suggestion

They have 4 nights to work with
Many people are satisfied with 1 night or just a day trip to Siena
Sometimes you have to compromise to make everyone in your travel party happy

TBH I’d drop all of CT

I've considered all your suggestions and it sort of makes sense to stay in Florence all 5 nights and do an all day tour that takes us to and Siena and Pisa. I personally would be fine skipping Pisa but with 3 of us, there has to be compromise. Thank you everyone!! We are doing Venice for 2, Florence for 5, Riomaggiore for 2 and finally Genoa for 2. Still open to suggestions in those towns. Ciao!

I wouldn’t try to combine Siena and Pisa on same day
I guess there might be guided bus tours that do that but you won’t get much time in either place

Give Siena a full day-take bus from Florence as it drops you in center

Pisa could easily be a half day/am then back to Florence for the evening

Since you now have 4 full days/5 nights in Florence you’d still have 2.5 days spent there
Which is what I would consider bare minimum
( unless you have no interest in art)

Is Riomaggiore that bad? Maybe we will pop over to one of the other towns nearby but we are booked there and it's kind of late to change... I was told that I would probably enjoy the Cinque Terre and really it's one full day, which will start with a hike and end with a sunset boat cruise and swim with a small group of 6. I'm looking forward to it. Again there are three of us and we are negotiating on our time. I usually prefer to travel alone so I can focus on what I'd like to do but it's just different this time.

Pisa wasn't even on my radar but my friend has her heart set on it. I might forgo and spend that day in Siena alone.

Thank you everyone :)
