Visiting Mt etna

My wife and I will be visiting Sicily later this spring and plan to spend a day touring Mt Etna. We are in our early 70s and would like to do short (say 2 hour) not too strenuous hiking while we are there. Can this be done from Rifugio Sapienza? Is it then worthwhile to take the gondola and continue further up? Will we likely see more or have other easy hikes up there if we do? Is it worthwhile to continue going further up with the 4x4? Much of what I've read about the gondola and 4x4 is confusing since it is not clear if they are for more serious hikers or for people who think that touring is about checking items off their checklists. Thanks in advance for any insights.

I would recommend looking at tours with Etna People: https://www.etnapeople.com/
We used them in 2020 and again just a few weeks ago and both times were great. If you are looking for something not very strenuous I recommend the "Good Morning Etna" hike, which is gentle and includes several stops for the guide to explain things about the mountain to you. Good luck with your planning!
