Visiting Florence in January

I will be visiting Florence in January and want to know if purchasing advance tickets for the Accademia and the Uffizi are still needed or recommended. Does it make a difference if I am planning to go on a weekend or weekday? Is there anything else about visiting in winter that I need to be aware of that I may not have thought about?

In winter, It's dark at 5 pm and museums close early.
Advantage: not many people so no queues.

I recommend it. The line is outdoors so not only will you have to wait but you will have to wait in the cold. I went in late October and there was already a line an hour deep when they opened. The Firenze pass is worth the line skipping if you plan to do other sights covered by the pass.

It was a few years ago, but I visited Florence during the first week in December. We walked right in to both the Accademia and the Uffizi with no waiting. I think it was during the week. It may be cold for gelato but don't miss the hot chocolate. It is the most delicious drink for cold weather ever! I wish I discovered it much earlier in the trip.

My favorite trip to Firenze was in January one year, over a weekend. We pre-planned only the Accademia and just walked in everywhere else. It is so nice to walk around without the hordes and to be cool, not baking! Do bring an umbrella or be ready to buy one. :-)

October is usually full in Florence. In January, Florence is really empty! So no queues.

I love Florence in early January, just after new year's eve. Very nice to participate with children at the befana feast on 6 th January.
