Visiting Florence but need other places

I will be in FLorence during the first week of March visiting my daugther who is studying abroad for the semester there. However, I have 5 additional nights to travel with her anywhere. I have been to Rome and Venice so would love to go somewhere else. Can anyone give recommendations.. I can stay at same place for the 5 nights or break up, I can fly or take train. I am willing to o anything and o anywhere to make it an amazing trip. I have been to Switzerland Zurick and Lucerne too. But can you please give some suggestions, we love site seeing, shopping, nice restaurants, wine tasting, diving into the culture in anyway possible!

Options are literally endless, so what I would do is get on some flight booking sites and see what direct flight works well for your outbound airport, with easy flight to Florence from there. (I am assuming your daughter can meet you at this location and the travel does not have to be outbound from Florence.) Have you been anywhere in Europe other than Italy and Switzerland? The more things you rule out the more we can rule in.

We had hoped to spend a week in Bologna but our week was too pricey (about 5 times summer prices) so we did a day trip -- sure sorry we didn't get a few days there. Excellent place for a couple of nights. Siena is amazing. I'd spent 3 nights there.

I’m biased as London is my favorite city on the planet.

2 hour flight from Florence to London Gatwick or Heathrow.

In March, Spain or Portugal might be worth considering.

Avoid the summer heat and crowds

Orvieto. Bologna. La Spezia. Naples.

There are plenty of places in Italy that are significantly different from Rome, Florence and Venice. They generally have great food, wines, and history. The above are three we've visited this year that fit the bill and that we've not visited before, plus Orvieto which repeats a visit of 40 years ago. Genoa is next. All these are easily reached from Florence by train in a relatively short trip.

I don't imagine you'll have any difficulty finding a great place to spend more time with your daughter. Have fun!

I will assume that your intentions are to travel within Italy since you mentioned Italian cities... mostly...5 nights will give you lovely walled Lucca combined with Pisa, immersing in both the real Italian culture and world-class sights, or Bologna coupled with Padua or Parma. Or perhaps... March is the ideal time of year for... the southern province of Puglia, staying in Bari, Lecce and Ostuni... or even Palermo... And if you really want to go to London... of course you can. There was a recent recommendation on the Wedgewood hotel.
Or you could even go to Edinburgh. If you take this advice you will conceivably end up in at least one place with a name that begins with P... or L... Oh I envy you. It all sounds so good.
