We only have a weekend in Rome Oct 6-7. Plan on vatican area on Saturday since chapel/museum not open Sunday. So that leaves Sunday for Colosseum and Forum, which is the free Sunday day. Can we avoid long lines if we get a skip the line tour? How does that work on free Sundays? Any advice on this? We need to do it in the morning as we leave Rome later afternoon. Any thoughts on good tours for the colosseum, forum?
Sorry but as far as I know there aren't any tours of the Colosseum (or Forum) on free Sundays. To avoid a long wait at the arena, you'll want to get in line early, before the gates open.
UUUGHHH! Bad timing on our part!
We learned a long time ago that a free day in Europe is to be avoided. You don't think the locals are aware of the free day and just as eager to save a euro as an Am tourists. Free days are zoos to be avoided.
You should have no trouble getting into the Forum and Palatine Hill on a free Sunday. Get your free tickets at an entrance for either of those. If you have time left, then try to visit the Colosseum.
I did find a tour for 9 am that morning. It covered the tour for 3 places (colosseum, forum, and Pantheon). Hoping they won't want extra admission charge.
