Is Bergamo, the upper town, worth a day’s visit from Milan , or just taking a morning trip to the upper town satisfactory?

Go to visitbergamo.net and see if it seems like something you would enjoy. I have not visited yet. My Italy trip is two months away. I have decided that it's worth a day trip from Milan to see the upper town.

The entire town is worth at least a day trip. Just be aware that there will be thousands of like minded individuals like you doing the same. Bergamo had 13 million tourists in 2024, the last year there are actual numbers. It’s been as packed in June as it has in October. There’s actually three levels, the lower town, the città Alta and the upper residential area. All worth a visit. Just keep clear of the tourist restaurants, of which there are many.
