Visiting Bergamo

We'll be in Bergamo one night in July. Any tips on what to see? Should we stay in Citta Alta or Bassa?

Thanks,
Jo

Citta Alta if you can. If you have a car, Citta Bassa may be more convenient. There is a bus that runs to Citta Alta about every 15 minutes.

I prefer Citta Alta because of the setting, proximity to restaurants and shops, and the best air I've ever breathed. The basilica complex is interesting, there was a crafts market the day I was there but it may be permanent. Save room for stopping and buying lots of local snacks.

Citta Alta is definitely more atmospheric but Bassa is more convenient to the train station. As Zoe mentioned, though, bus service to Alta is convenient and easy.

Alta is not really very big so you won't have any trouble running into the churches and ancient staircases and structures as you walk about…and do some of that at night! It's at its medieval best after dark!
