visiting Amarone or Prosecco as a day trip from Venice

My husand and I are thrilled to be visiting Venice for the first time this July. I know its not the best travel time for Venice, but we are jumping at the chance regardless. Has anyone done a day trip to any wineries around Venice, if so, how, where or is it even worth it in July?

Kelly - My personal view on daytrips from Venice is no for pretty much anything that takes you off the lagoon.

Here is my reasoning behind that:

Venice by itself is a fascinating, wonderful place with tons of things to see and do even after you have taken in the major sights. It is a great place for getting off the beaten path and just wandering around.

Venice is also one of the most expensive places in Italy for both lodging and food so you are paying a premium (worth it in my opinion) to stay there but going somewhere else for a day trip.

So my suggestion is do the outer islands, Murano, Burano, Torcello and even San Michelle for the cemetary but stay close to Venice for your time there.

There are lots of places to explore in the Veneto and it is a great place but I would not use Venice as a base to see the rest of the Veneto.

are you traveling by train or car. If you're going by car, Vo (near padova) has great winerys. send me a message for specific winerys. Soave is between Verona and Vicenza. You may be able to get there on a direct train. I can give you the name of a winery or two there too.
