Visit to Paestum on our own

We will be driving in Southern Italy for two weeks in late May and want to include a trip to Paestum. We'd love a stay somewhere with a view of the temples at night. Any recommendations? When touring Sicily we often hired a local guide for the four of us for sites such as this. Are their guides available at the site? Do you have any recommendations? Thanks so much.

Hotel Poseidonia Mare doesn't have a view of the temples, but it's a great hotel, with parking onsite, great breakfasts, and near the beach. The ruins and museum are about 1km away (you can drive or walk to the temples). Hotel dei Templi offers some rooms with views, but I haven't stayed there. I don't think you need a guide, but I think there are self-guided audiotapes available. Most sites are clearly marked. Note that the museum is closed on Mondays, but a pass for the archeological zone and the museum can be used on separate days. Paestum is also home to the famous buffalo mozzarella, and you can see cheese farms in the area.

I'm not sure about the hotel within viewing distance but the area is so small that a guide might be a waste of money. There are many websites on the temples and the museum, which is great! We took the train there and back and had a great day-trip.
