visit to Italy from Switzerland (original flight from USA with connection thru Heathrow)

Hi,
Please help, so confused! We are traveling in Sept 2021 from SFO with connection from London Heathrow to Zurich. We understand we are ok to fly into Zurich from Heathrow (connecting flight same day) but after spending 8 days in Switzerland we are going on to Italy. Are we expected to quarantine in Italy since we traveled thru Heathrow less than 14 days earlier? Has anyone done this? We are taking the train from Switzerland into Italy.
thanks very much,
KVK

Yes you will be subject to 5 day quarantine

Use this tool
You are entering Italy from Switzerland and will have been in USA and UK in past 14 days

Solution is to get your flight changed and drop the UK transition

Assuming you are flying British Air that might mean a change to American with plane change at JFK then on to Zurich

Agree, you should try to rebook to a flight that does not have a transit in the UK included.

Sadly, we canceled the Italy portion of our trip and are [hopefully] spending our entire trip in Switzerland.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was able to switch to a flight into Paris and we will take the train onward! Travel is very confusing but hopefully navigating all these requirements will be worth it! I guess the key is being flexible.

Karen,
My daughter and her husband recently took a train from Austria to Venice and they weren't even asked to show their PCR test (required to get in). Perhaps things have evolved, but as long as you go to the country's destination's official website and get all the information ahead of time you should be in really good shape.
Best wishes,
Diane
