Visit in Oct.

Planning on going to Italy/ Rome in Oct. with my granddaughter and I just saw an article about how some of the attractions have shorter hours in Oct." which also has less daylight for getting around the city" . I am not sure how many days we are going to be there " not a whole week I do know " ,so time has to be used to the fullest.

Has anyone else traveled to Rome in the middle to the latter time span for the month of Oct. ? The temp... sounded pretty good at 50 degrees.... I was in Rome in the early part of April so no problem with museum's , places of interest having shorter hours. Any ideas, suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Gail

October may be Rome's best month. It is not hot, certainly not cold, and less crowded. Many museums are open at night, BTW. We loved to rest up in the afternoon then head to a museum about 6:00PM, followed by dinner at an early-for-Rome 8:00PM.

Thank you so much for the info. on museum's opened at night. I was not considering walking much at night since it will be just we two women but this will give us more time in Rome we love our museum's here in town. I was there last April 9th on a Rick Steve's tour . love it.

Was there last October. Bring an umbrella :) But otherwise the weather was perfect.

Rome is still quite busy in October, and the weather is perfectly warm. Bring a light jacket for the evenings though.

We've been to Rome is October and it's a wonderful month to be there. We didn't just roast, and it was warm enough at night to eat outside. We did see a little rain but that can happen in any month. Now, you could see chillier weather than we did but it's far better than just cooking in the summer heat.

Aside from a little morning/later evening chill, we didn't even need a jacket most days.

And don't worry about walking at night? We've walked all over after dark without feeling unsafe at all. I might not hang around the train stations but you don't need to do that anyway. The evenings - when things are lit up - are great times for a stroll.

I wouldn't even worry about walking around at night in normal neighborhoods. There is a lot of foot traffic after dark. We found mid-october almost hot.

There's a great deal of foot traffic, even after dark, in Italy. People live a lot of their lives outdoors. You won't feel, or be, unsafe.

As a solo female traveler, I have walked around Roma at all hours of the night. No need to worry about safety beyond the precautions you would take in any big city during the day.

It's beautiful to walk around when the monuments and fountains are illuminated.
