visit city not on tour

Is there a way to visit a city like Campobossa, Italy when doing the Southern Italy tour. My husbands family is from there.

Renting a car is probably the easiest way to get there.

My grandparents came from a small village about 20 miles NE of Campobasso, and I do not recall seeing any buses. They may serve the area, but I suspect with only minimal service.

If you are doing the Best of South Italy ( 13 day) tour, renting a car in Naples when the tour ends and driving there is what I suggest.

Campobasso (mind the spelling) even has a railway connection with Naples, either from Centrale or from Caserta. It's a long trip though: some 3,5 hrs.

I agree with Joe. We are taking the South of Italy tour in May. At tour's end in Naples, we are renting a car from AutoEurope/Hertz at NAP airport and driving to Mongrassano Calabria to visit my sister-in-law's grandparents' ancestral home. Depending how long you want to stay in Campobasso, you could stay at least overnight there, then return the car to NAP and go on with your trip. I wouldn't try to drive it as a day trip because you'll spend your day driving and not seeing the village.
