Visit Burano from Venice airport in a few hours?

I arrive in Venice in the morning and have 4 hours until my transfer departs to Südtirol. I'm wondering if it's possible to make a quick visit to Burano to look around and walk off the jet lag. Does anyone know how to get there from the airport and how long it would take? If it's not possible, can anyone recommend a good way to make the most of those 4 extra hours? I can't stand the thought of fighting jet lag at the airport for 4 hours when Venice is so close. BTW, I have 2 days in Venice after Südtirol. Thanks!

With only a four hour stopover you do not have time to go to Burano. I would personally be reluctant to even head into the area around the train station.

Do you really have four hours? You need to be ready to board well before departure, half an hour, I think; then there is the time between when the plane lands and the time you actually walk away from the gate.

If you did decide to do such a thing, about the only way you could walk on Burano for a few minutes would likely be a taxi that would wait for you.

You'd need deep pockets, when the meter is running the price goes up, and you would be tight on time because the walk from the arrivals hall to the taxi dock is about 10 or 15 minutes each way, depending on how fast you walk. Surely you would leave your luggage behind, or have it checked through?.

Are you flying from there to the Sued Tirol?

See if a water taxi will give you an hour or two of his time for 150 euro or so.
How are you getting from Venice airport to Suedtirol, and what city are you going to?
Edit- I see Nigel has the same questions.

Best leave burano for another time unless u can get a watertaxi as was mentioned.

I think the poster is waiting at the airport for a private car transfer to take him to Sud Tyrol (Alto Adige), not for another flight.
There are no flights from Venice to Bolzano or even Innsbruck.

Nevertheless Burano is a long way from the airport unless you take a water taxi. There is no direct vaporetto service from the airport to Burano.

Thank you everyone. I was afraid it just wasn't enough time. Hopefully the airport is a nice place to kill a few hours before my van to Südtirol arrives.

What about a round trip ride on the vaparetto? How long would that take? I'll start a new post if no one responds. Thanks!

You could take the Alilaguna Rossa line to Murano Museo. They go at 40 past the hour, and the return is at 53 past the hour, it takes 30 minutes each way. Since you do not have to go through security and early boarding for a van, you might actually get 1 hour and 43 minutes on Murano. There is a luggage storage depot at the airport, Make sure you get back in time to bail it out. Also, be aware that the Alilaguna often runs late as the time for other passengers at the other stops to get on and off with their luggage varies.

Denise,

I agree with the others that the time is going to be really "tight" for a visit to Burano. I'd suggest leaving it for another visit.

Hi Denise, I agree with the above: unfortunately you don't have enough time to visit Burano. Keep in mind that if you need to wait for your checked-in luggage, it can take quite a while for it to arrive on the carousel (I usually have to wait at least 20 minutes at the Venice Marco Polo airport). If your luggage arrives quickly, leave it at the Deposito bagagli, then consider taking the ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma (approx 20 minute bus ride one-way) and you could walk down to the Grand Canal and walk off jet lag there. Still, you don't really have enough time for that because you need to factor in lots of time to get through security at the airport when you get back, just in case they decide to thoroughly check your carry-on which could mean a long delay. I've had that happen at Marco Polo recently even though I didn't have anything unusual in my carry-on. I would recommend staying at the airport. You can get really good reasonably-priced coffee on the main level and top level. Enjoy! :)
