Is a special travel visa required for Cinque Terre ?
I’ll be there in late June.

There are no visa requirements for U.S. citizens to visit Italy. There are no additional city or town visa specific entry requirements once you arrive. There are regulations regarding cars and driving into certain areas but I don’t know those details. Country of Citizenship visa details should be available on embassy website.

U.S..citizens don't need visas for Italy unless they intend to stay longer than 90 days within a 180-day period. Just a passport.
What is your citizenship?

American. Someone told me they now require a separate visa to control the crowds in this national park. I guess they are wrong. Thank you!

I believe there is pass required in the Cinque Terre to use the trails; I don't know whether you need it otherwise. Someone else will show up soon with a definitive answer, I am sure.

Yes, there is a pass required for certain trails. Check the park site. http://www.parconazionale5terre.it/
Loads of info on it as to what trails are open/closed, difficulty levels, time required and especially which trails require the pass.
LIZ beat me. Both sites are valuable.

Venice will implement an entry fee permit, apply prior to travel, the paid permit has to be carried on your person at all times or they can fine you if they stop and request it. This has been a delayed project, but supposed to kick off in August 2023.

Also, the new ETIAS will be implemented in 2024, whereby 26 European countries will participate and will be mandatory for travelers to be cleared (or not) to travel within those counties participating. The UK, Australia, Canada, New Z will follow suit thereafter. It is similar to the USA ESTA. They are tracking who is going in/out, looking for criminals, or people misusing true Visa requirements for stays longer than 90 days.
