Vintage & Flea Market Treasure Hunting in Rome and Florence: Traveling from Jan 26-February 2?

We love to treasure hunt for collectibles, odds & ends, and vintage items; second hand works for us.
Any insights how to hit the "local" spots for we just don't enjoy tourist gift shops.

Also, any insights on what crowds will be like during this time?

THANK YOU.

Crowds are definitely low! Great time to be here!

I do not frequent the markets, but reputedly the Porta Portese market (Sundays only) in Trastevere is worth checking out. Notorious for pick=pockets, so hide your valuables. I think it is mentioned in Rick Steves, but it is popular with locals, too, according to a friend of mine who lives near there.

There's also one at Ponte Milvio the first and second Sundays from 9:00-20:00 with vintage items.

I'd also suggest you wander the streets of Monte. Lots of cute shops!

You will want to verify this for updates and also it's subject to weather, but on a Sunday this last March, we visited a great flea market in Florence's Oltrarno neighborhood, which is just south of the Arno River. It was on Borgo Santo Spirito, near the church there. I believe they have the flea markets there every 2nd and 4th Sunday each month.

Enjoy!

Larry , I too love old "things " , vintage items. I googled vintage shops and found at least 6 in the Monte area which sell clothing , handbags ect. That is near the Coliseum / Forum area so you will be right there. .
