vineyards/wineries little towns in southern Tuscany or Umbria

We are spending the week of Thanksgiving in Rome and are debating whether to rent a car for a day for drive into some of the very small towns, wineries, vineyards between Rome and Siena or Rome and Assissi.

  1. Is it too frustrating to drive say from Rome's airport north of the city?
  2. Are there any places that you would recommend within that two hour stretch?
  3. Any place for wine tasting with that beautiful agrarian view?

  1. No. It's very easy (if you avoid rush hour traffic). However see below.
  2. Within 2 hours I would go to the Colli Albani (Frascati) near Rome, a white wine producing area to the Southwest of the city. Two hours are not really enough to reach the Siena area.
