Vineyard by bus from Greve, Chianti

Hi everyone

First I must confess that I recognise the fact that vineyards are almost all unreachable without a car or taxi.

But I wanted to try again if there happens to be a vineyard out there that is somehow reachable by public bus. We cannot drive, prefers flexibility without hiring a driver, but with old parents of 80+ years old, we cannot do long distance walking or steep uphill walk.

I know of Ruffino, where the bus stop brings you just in front of the vineyard. But unfortunately we are going to be in Chianti on 14 August 2016 (Sunday) and 15 August 2016 (Monday), and they are closed.

Sharing some preferences but we are not extremely sticky
- Our accommodation: Via della Montagnola, Greve in Chianti, there is a bus stop near to it
- Dates: 14 August 2016 (Sunday) and 15 August 2016 (Monday)
- Looking for a tour of vineyard and cellars, olive groves will be bonus, with wine tasting and preferable lunch
- We are not experienced wine drinkers, not looking at high end wines
- Not sure if a 200 - 300 Euros for 4 adults is too low a budget

Some other options that I have already considered
- Castello di Vicchiomaggio - not possible without a car, as it is 30 minutes walking
- Castello di Verrazzano - not possible, with 30 mins walk after alighting from bus stop
- Fattoria Viticcio - lunch at 110 Euros per pax is not too affordable for us
- Villa Medicea di Liliano - possible but need to figure out how much walking involved
- Azienda Montefioralle - very positive reviews of this small family run; but lunch is not possible, only tasting and some snacks, and 30 mins steep walking involved

Appreciate anyone who has similar experiences of visiting a vineyard by bus and walking! Or someone with local knowledge to share tips too!

We too noted the last resort will be either to walk, arrange for a taxi, join a tour, or engage services of a driver who will be tour guide too.

I would take a taxi short 6-8 minutes to Castello di Verrnazzo. Contact them and explain the reduced mobility issues.

The tasting menus might be enough food. Otherwise go with the lunch.

Beautiful grounds and very informative.

Verrazzano is a treat! Go for the tour of the winery with the "lunch" included-it's 4 or 5 courses paired with a proper wine for each, and you can have as much or a little as you want. We and those who have also been were quite pleased with the experience.

Thanks gerri and JerryG again. I was toying between Castello di Vicchiomaggio and Castello di Verrazzano.

Have you used a local Chianti/Greve taxi service before, and if you the contacts? There is no bus on 15 August, national holiday. the taxi services that i have contacted unfortunately are based in Florence.
